Appendix to the Session
De Essentie. One minute a week.
Not a newsletter. One short message every week: four sentences, three questions, one key idea. We don’t provide answers. We give you questions that stick with you. They’ll come up again around the dinner table.

Four sentences, three questions, one key idea
That is all there is to it. Four sentences set out the facts. Three questions will stay with you. One key idea sticks in your mind, even if you have forgotten the rest. This is what an edition of De Essentie looks like, here for the Energy and climate dossier.
4 sentences
- Your production requires more power and has to become cleaner.
- The grid in South Limburg is not keeping pace.
- Major upgrades to the high-voltage grid are planned between 2028 and 2034.
- If you don’t control when power is used, you’ll pay the peak rate.
3 questions
- What proportion of your electricity demand can be met outside peak hours?
- Which of your energy costs can you control, and which are fixed?
- Who in your organisation currently decides when power is used?
1 key idea
The grid is full. The clock isn’t.
Reading time: one minute. The sources can be found in the Energy and climate dossier. We’ll find the answers together, around the table.

Questions, not answers
An answer brings a thought to a close. A good question lingers. That is why *De Essentie* contains neither advice nor a point of view. Only what you need to know, and what you ought to ask yourself.
Short
Four sentences. The facts of a single case, with no preamble and no padding. You can read it between appointments.
Thought-provoking
Three questions you can’t answer straight away. That’s the point. They’ll stay with you: in the car, in your own meetings, at your desk.
Memorable
One core idea. One sentence you’ll remember once the week is over, and which you can pass on to anyone it might concern.

From message to session
De Essentie is almost a preparation, but it doesn’t feel like one. You read it for a minute and it makes you think for a week. At the table, we use those questions to get things started.
The message
De Essentie arrives. One minute’s reading: four sentences, three questions, one key idea.
The week
The questions linger. You test them against your own experience and take a thought away with you.
The Session
The questions resurface at the table. That’s where we get started. You begin with the core, not with a blank page.
The Decision
What the group decides feeds into the next ‘Essence’. In this way, each round builds on the previous one.
